Abu Dhabi, 19th January. On the last day of The World Future Energy Summit, Sungrow made its presence at the Energy Forum on the topic of “Advancing the Circular Economy in the Solar Industry”. Sungrow’s Director of Strategic Business in MENA, Diaa Eed, gave the keynote speech on this panel, and shared his insights on promoting the circular economy for the renewable energy industry’s sustainable growth.
Recently, more and more countries in the Middle East have made significant strides to promote, develop, and use solar energy. However, as early installations and products approach the end of their useful life, End-of-Life (EoL) Management captures more attention in future energy use, as good strategies can reduce waste, increase resources security and provide more financial values and sustainability credentials.
For this issue, Diaa Eed shared his strategic thoughts on behalf of Sungrow’s MENA Region. Here are some highlights. First and foremost, as the globe heads towards green and sustainable development by increasing the portion of renewable energy in the whole mix, Sungrow has always promoted using the most innovative solutions and latest technologies to make this journey smoother. Optimization is the priority in Sungrow’s solar plus storage strategy, and numerous successful cases prove our achievement in best BOS, LCOE, and electricity generation, along with sustainable CAPEX and OPEX for the entire system design. Relying on those key points, Sungrow manages to maintain a firm leading position within this industry.
Previous achievements encourage Sungrow to shoulder more responsibilities to protect environment and help our partners realize the sustainable development. We are also quite conscious of the end of life management and are developing some strategies for it. Sungrow invests more into innovating and facilitating the manufacturing cycle, and considers establishing our own supply chain and logistic system in MENA, in this way to reduce our carbon footprint. Further, we are also keeping a close eye on eco-friendly, recyclable materials to advance the circular economy.
Sungrow has already been a game-changer in terms of the EOL strategy. We completed a 100 MW retrofit PV project located in Benban Solar Park, Egypt, with the our1500Vdc central inverter solutions and till date, it has been operational for over 13 months. This is also the largest retrofit PV undertaking in the MENA region by far.
As the global PV market increases, the waste of decommissioned PV panels will also grow and pose a new environmental challenge. Hence, sustainable and circular growth of renewable energy industry is essential in the world’s transition to future energy. Sungrow will make more contributions to PV end-of-life management, and help build more sustainable solar and storage projects so as to reduce the environmental impacts of solar energy and ultimately make solar energy more affordable.
